Rupiah Potentially Imbas Market Lesu Awaiting US Economic Data

JAKARTA - Financial Market Observer and Commodity Ariston Tjendra said that the movement of the rupiah has the potential to weaken against the United States (US) dollar on Monday, February 10.

Ariston menyampaikan, data ekonomi AS yang dirilis di akhir pekan kemarin masih menunjukkan kondisi ketenagakerjaan AS yang masih solid dan peluang kenaikan inflasi.

Arisron said that data on the US unemployment rate in January fell to 4 percent compared to the previous 4.1 percent, data on an average wage increase of 0.5 percent compared to the previous month's 0.3 percent, inflation's expectation data rose 4.3 percent compared to the previous 3.3 percent.

"The results of this data of course support the strengthening of the US dollar against other exchange rates," he told VOI, Monday, February 10.

Ariston said this morning the US dollar index was already in the range of 108.35, compared to the previous Friday Morning in the range of 107.77.

According to him, the strengthening of the US dollar is also still supported by market expectations for the possibility of a trade war due to the policy of increasing President Trump's import rates.

He estimates that the movement of the rupiah on Monday, February 10, has the potential to weaken against the US dollar towards the level of Rp. 16,350 per US dollar with the potential for support to the level of Rp. 16,250 per US dollar.

Quoting Bloomberg, the Rupiah exchange rate on Friday, February 7, 2025, the rupiah exchange rate in the spot market closed higher by 0.36 percent at the level of Rp. 16,283 per US dollar. Meanwhile, the Jakarta Interbank Spot Dollar Rate (Jisdor) exchange rate of Bank Indonesia (BI) closed up 0.03 percent to a price level of Rp. 16,325 per US dollar.
