Reflecting On The Shooting Case Of Car Rental Boss, The TNI Increases Internal Supervision

JAKARTA - The TNI stated that it is always open to evaluate in order to increase the professionalism of soldiers in the use of firearms, related to recommendations from Komnas HAM in responding to the shooting case of car rental bosses by Indonesian Navy personnel at the Rest Area KM 45 Tangerang-Merak Toll Road, Banten.

Head of the TNI Information Center (Kapuspen) Major General TNI Hariyanto said the TNI respects the recommendations submitted by Komnas HAM as part of efforts to maintain institutional professionalism and accountability.

"The TNI will continue to take steps to improve, including the socialization of more intensive regulations and the improvement of internal monitoring mechanisms to prevent similar incidents in the future," said Hariyanto, in Jakarta, Sunday.

He said the TNI also continues to strengthen supervision and guidance to all soldiers so that firearms are only used according to the rules and in the really necessary situations.

That way, he emphasized that the TNI will not tolerate the misuse of firearms by TNI soldiers and ensure that every action taken by TNI soldiers must be in the corridor of the applicable law and military regulations.

In addition, he ensured that currently the legal process against the Indonesian Navy personnel involved in the case was ongoing. TNI Commander General Agus Subiyanto has also conveyed that every soldier who is proven to have violated the law is dealt with firmly in accordance with the applicable laws and regulations.

Previously, Komnas HAM stated that the shooting case of the car rental boss at the KM 45 Tangerang-Merak toll road by Indonesian Navy personnel on Thursday (2/1) was an act of murder outside the legal process (extra judicial killing).

Komnas HAM also recommends the TNI to evaluate the regulation on the use of firearms, especially in terms of supervision, socializing the regulation on the use of firearms, as well as conducting psychological assessments of soldiers who use weapons regularly.
