European Union: US Sanctions To ICC Disrupt Glbal Accountability Efforts
JAKARTA - Spokesperson for EU Foreign Affairs (EU), Anouar El Anouni, stated that the sanctions imposed on the International Criminal Court (ICC) would undermine global accountability efforts.
El-Anouni underlined the ICC's important role in supporting international criminal justice and fighting impunity.
According to him, the European Union regretted the US executive order that imposed sanctions on the ICC.
Reported by ANTARA from WAFA-OANA, Friday, February 7, El-Anouni emphasized the European Union's firm support for the ICC along with the principles contained in the Rome Statute.

In addition, he also stressed that US executive orders pose serious challenges to ICC's duties as well as have the potential to disrupt ongoing investigations and processes.
He pointed out the US decision could undermine years of efforts to ensure accountability worldwide.
According to him, the European Union will continue to monitor the impact of the US executive order and is considering possible other steps.
