DKI Provincial Government Asks For An Equivalent LPG Gas Quota Last Year To The Ministry Of Energy And Mineral Resources

Acting (Pj) Governor of DKI Jakarta Teguh Setyabudi said the DKI Provincial Government has requested an increase in the 3 kilogram LPG gas quota to the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM) to anticipate the scarcity of stock in Jakarta.

As is known, the subsidized LPG gas quota for Jakarta this year is 407,555 metric tons. This figure is 5 percent lower than the realization of the distribution of LPG in 2024 of 414,134 metric tons.

So, for this year, the DKI Provincial Government has asked for an additional quota of LPG gas with an equivalent amount of distribution in 2024.

"We from the provincial government have proposed the need for 3 kg LPG in 2025. We rely on the need in 2024. What (previously) was approved by the Director General of Oil and Gas is not what we submitted," Teguh said after inspecting the LPG gas base in Kramat Jati, East Jakarta, Friday, 7 February.

In addition, one of the reasons why it is difficult for residents to find 3 kg of gas is the highest retail price (HET) in Jakarta which is still lower in the buffer zone.

Currently, HET gas 3 kg in Jakarta is still IDR 16,000 based on the determination of the 2015 governor's regulation. Meanwhile, several buffer areas have set HET at IDR 19,000.

This has caused many residents in buffer areas to look for LPG gas to Jakarta. Therefore, Teguh will propose an increase in HET gas 3 to Jakarta to the central government.

"In Kramat Jati, which we just saw the HET, Rp. 16,000 was sold for Rp. 16,000 as well, but we are monitoring that in some areas there are indeed those who sell up to Rp. 19,000," he explained.

Teguh assessed that residents' concerns about the scarcity of 3 kg LPG gas have recently caused a panic buying phenomenon. This makes the gas stock at the base decrease.

"Indeed, there was a queue on Monday and Tuesday, but not much. The reason was because people were worried that they would buy more than their daily needs," said Teguh.

So, with the request for additional LPG gas quota and HET increase in Jakarta, Teguh is optimistic that the 3 kg gas stock in Jakarta will remain safe ahead of Ramadan to Eid al-Fitr this year.

"We also always monitor it ahead of Ramadan fasting, and Eid al-Fitr, we, the regional inflation control team also stock not only 3 kg LPG problems but also for other basic foodstuffs. We don't stop monitoring it," he added.
