Komdigi Requires Digital Upgrade Technology Platforms To Prevent Children's Accounts
JAKARTA - Minister of Communication and Digital Affairs Meutya Hafid will require Electronic Platform Operators (PSE) to upgrade their technology to prevent the creation of social media accounts for children.
This step is taken as an effort by the Indonesian government to maintain child safety in the digital space. Because according to him, in addition to having a positive impact, if it is not monitored and restricted, the internet will also pose a risk to children.
"They (PSE) must upgrade, also if they don't have a system that can confirm when the child enters the data, how can his children not pretend to be adults," explained Meutya in the Focus Group Discussion (FGD) with Ministries/Institutions, experts, and academics on Thursday, February 6.
In addition, Komdigi also mentioned that PSE will have a responsibility to provide digital literacy and education to its users about how to use social media safely.
Later, the decision from the results of the Komdigi FGD with experts, academics, and Ministries/Institutions will be included as additional articles related to child protection in the digital space in the RPP for Child Protection in the Implementation of Electronic Systems or TKPAPSE.

"We also burden them (PSE) with education, as well as listening from the Ministry of Education and Culture, ladies and gentlemen of academics, how digital literacy is also good and what we need to include in this PP which is related to digital literacy." he said.
However, until the discussion ended, the Expert Staff of the Minister for Communication and Mass Media, Molly Prabawaty, said that they had not been able to determine the minimum age limit for children in these restrictions.
Molly also said that Komdigi would hold further discussions with all PSE in Indonesia to ensure their commitment to supporting the government's performance.
"Indeed, there will be a follow-up FGD. Of course we will also invite those from digital platforms," he said.
