Deadly Accident At GT Ciawi, MTI: Indonesia Emergency Transportation Safety
Chairman of the Indonesian Transportation Society (MTI), Tory Damantoro, assessed that the accident allegedly due to the failed brake further strengthens that transportation safety in Indonesia is in an emergency condition.
"The successive accidents that occurred at the Ciawi Toll Gate last night have again proven that we are in a Transportation Safety Emergency," Tory said in his statement, Thursday, February 6.
MTI urges President Prabowo Subianto to immediately take concrete steps in dealing with land transportation safety problems in Indonesia.
"So far, if the President doesn't pay attention, then the public will always be in anxiety," said Tory.
He also reminded that if the government continues to ignore this issue, public safety in transportation will continue to be a risk of life.
"We don't have to wait until officials or official families become victims. Many lives have been lost, and the government must be held accountable," he added.
Transportation Governance Transportation Observer Djoko Setijowarno highlighted that truck accidents on the highway are often caused by negligence in vehicle preparation. In addition to driver competence factors, the lack of vehicle maintenance causes accidents involving repetitive freight transport.
"Kejadian-kejadian ini mencerminkan lemahnya tata kelola dan kurangnya upaya perbaikan yang seharusnya dilakukan pemerintah," kata Djoko.
