Death Accident At GT Ciawi, DPR Summons Minister Of Transportation Today

JAKARTA - The DPR through Commission V will summon the Minister of Transportation, Dudy Purwagandhi, regarding the successive accidents that occurred at the Ciawi Toll Gate (GT), on Thursday, February 6 morning.

Chairman of Commission V of the House of Representatives Lasarus confirmed that he would summon the Minister of Transportation to discuss the incidents of consecutive accidents that occurred at the Ciawi Toll Gate (GT). He assessed that this incident should be an important lesson so that preventive measures can be implemented immediately in order to avoid similar incidents in the future.

"From the results of the interim investigation, it is known that the cause of the accident was the failed brake on the truck carrying gallons of water. This is a serious concern for the Ministry of Transportation. We will wait for the results of the police investigation before holding a working meeting with the Minister of Transportation tomorrow (today)," said Lasarus.

Lasarus emphasized the importance of periodic inspection of all types of land transportation vehicles, especially those heavily charged. According to him, in addition to vehicles that must meet roadworthiness standards, driver competence also needs to be strictly inspected.

"The ramp check from the Ministry of Transportation must be carried out regularly. One of the main causes of this accident is the non-function of the weight bridge. We also do not know whether the vehicle has over-dimension overloading," he said.

He also asked the Ministry of Transportation to tighten supervision of vehicle feasibility tests and prevent data manipulation. According to him, large-loaded vehicles that do not meet the standards can endanger other road users.

"If the vehicle experiences over-dimension overloading, why is it still allowed to operate? It could be that the brakes failed due to loads that exceeded capacity," he added.

The accident at Toll Ciawi 2 Gate that occurred on Tuesday night at 23.30 WIB. So far, there have been 8 victims who died, 11 people were injured, and 2 others were seriously injured. A total of 11 injured victims have been rushed to the Ciawi public hospital for treatment.

Meanwhile, the truck driver involved in the accident at the Ciawi Toll Gate is still unconscious at Ciawi General Hospital. The police will conduct an examination after the driver is aware to determine the exact cause of the accident.
