Support Food Security Program, TNI AD Raises Status Of 5 Korems To Kodam

JAKARTA - Head of the Army Information Service (Kadispenad) Brigadier General Wahyu Yudhayana said his party raised the status of five military resort command (korem) in a number of areas to become the command of the military area (kodam), for the benefit of the food security program.

"Indeed, the new Kodams, but the formation, have been upgraded from the existing corem," Wahyu said when met at the TNI AD Headquarters, Jakarta, Wednesday, which was confiscated by Antara.

Wahyu explained that the five correms whose status was upgraded to Kodam this year will be located in South Papua, Central Sulawesi, Central Kalimantan, Riau with Riau, and Lampung with Bengkulu which will become one Kodam.

He continued, later the Korem, which was upgraded to the Kodam, would gain additional military power such as troop numbers, military facilities to combat equipment like other Kodams.

Later, additional personnel stationed in the Kodam will not only focus on maintaining territorial areas but also run food security programs such as utilizing sleeping land into plantations, printing rice fields to adding water points.

It is also ensured that each Kodam will be equipped with additional facilities that support agricultural activities.

"The Kodams are also to support the government's program in realizing food self-sufficiency," said Wahyu.

At the same time, the TNI AD is also forming 100 development territorial battalions (BTP) whose main task is also in line with the five new Kodams, namely strengthening food security in the regions.

Later in one BTP there will be several companies specifically to take care of food security.

"For example, here is a production company, there are agricultural companies, livestock companies, so that later this new battalion will not only have a fixed function of its basic function as an infantry unit, but also has a special function in supporting the achievement of government programs to overcome the community," he explained.

With the new ranks of Kodam and the addition of this battalion, Wahyu hopes that the Indonesian Army can run the food security program optimally.
