Waste Retribution Has Not Been Implemented, DKI Provincial Government: Waiting For New Governor
In fact, the previous waste retribution was targeted to take effect on January 1, 2025. Asep said that the application of waste retribution was likely to take effect after Pramono Anung-Rano Karno officially served as Governor-Deputy Governor of DKI Jakarta.
While waiting for the transitional leadership period in Jakarta, the DKI Provincial Government is still drafting a governor regulation (pergub) as a waste retribution technical rule from the legal umbrella of Regional Regulation Number 1 of 2024 concerning Regional Taxes and Regional Retribution.
"The governor's regulation is still in process. It looks like he will wait for the new governor (for the application of waste levies)," Asep said in a short message to VOI, Wednesday, February 5.
On the one hand, Asep admitted that there had been no discussion regarding waste retribution with the ranks of the Pramono-Rano transition team. Thus, it is possible that Pramono will delay the collection of waste levies from the people of Jakarta.
"Everything is possible, whether it is approved, postponed, or even canceled. Whatever will be decided later, God willing, it will be the best for Jakarta," said Asep.
"The Environmental Service will continue to strive to improve waste management from upstream, middle, and downstream as much as possible and as well as possible," he added.
For information, the cleaning retribution system is one of the steps taken by the DKI Provincial Government to increase waste management more effectively and efficiently. This system is based on the principle of who produces waste, having to pay for its management.
"This retribution will be imposed on residential houses and business activities, with the distribution of tariffs based on the electrical power installed in each place," said Asep, some time ago.
However, there are exceptions for residents who can sort waste from their respective homes. Retribution exemption for residents who can sort waste from the source and/or join the Waste Bank is an incentive to encourage Jakarta residents to be more concerned about waste management.
"Kami ingin mendorong warga Jakarta untuk berperan aktif dalam pengelolaan sampah, baik melalui pemilahan sampah di rumah maupun dengan menjadi anggota Bank Sampah. Partisipasi ini akan memberikan manfaat besar bagi pengurangan volume sampah yang dihasilkan,” jelas Asep.
