Melly Goeslaw Questions The Decision Of The Commercial Court That Accepts Ari Bias' Lawsuit Against Agnez Mo

JAKARTA - Melly Goeslaw, the singers who also served as members of the House of Representatives of the Republic of Indonesia (DPR RI), questioned the decision of the Central Jakarta Commercial Court which granted Ari Bias' lawsuit against Agnez Mo.

Through an upload on Instagram, Melly admitted that she was surprised when a songwriter actually demanded a singer who performed the song.

"I'm still surprised, with a friend's story about the case of the songwriter who demanded the singer because the singer brought his song. My feelings have become a new 29-year-old songwriter now hear events like this," wrote Melly, citing the caption of the upload, Tuesday, February 4.

"Because in my opinion it is in accordance with the law, every organizer is obliged to pay royalties to songwriters for the songs he hosted at the event. So the promoter / EO pays, not the singer," he continued.

Melly's admiration continued because the panel of judges actually granted the songwriter's lawsuit.

"But with an incident like this and even recently the lawsuit of the songwriter was won by the judge, so I want to ask the Judge how can he win the case?, even though as far as I know, all the witnesses have said that what has to be paid is not the singer but the organizer," he said.

Considering that the revision of the Copyright Law is included in the 2025 Priority National Legislation Program (Prolegnas), Melly wants the verdict on the case to be clear and not misinterpreted by the public.

"Really this must be clear, don't let the ecosystem be destroyed, the relationship between singer and songwriter is bad. Even though singer and songwriter are equal partners. And I am grateful that my songs were performed by singers, boro2 thought about prosecution, because maybe my song was a hit not because the song was good, but maybe because it was sung by the singer," said Anto Hoed's wife.

"I myself am not a genius in the field of law, therefore I and the DPR RI Expert Body team are very careful in drafting the revision of the Copyright Law. We invite many experts and stakeholders to have their opinions and inputs heard. Therefore, I think for the good of all, it is better for the state to come here, because artists are one of the state assets whose ecosystem needs to be maintained. Don't be divided because of different understandings," he continued.

"Hopefully my writing conveys well to the hearts of all colleagues, maybe it's a good idea to convey it to friends of Commission 3 of the DPR RI. And it can be responded wisely."
