The Situbondo Pantura Line Is Completely Congested Due To Floods

SITUBONDO - River overflow floods in Situbondo Regency, East Java caused the north coast highway (Pantura) that connects Java and Bali islands to a total traffic jam, on Monday (3/2) night due to flooding.

Head of BPBD Situbondo Regency, Sruwi Hartanto, said that the river water in Melandingan District overflowed and flooded the northern coast line after previously in the area heavy rain fell.

"Heavy rain since late afternoon at around 17:00 WIB and at the same time in the high tide, the river was unable to accommodate the water discharge and overflowed onto the highway," he said as quoted by ANTARA, Monday, February 3.

According to Sruwi, due to the flood of river water, the traffic flow from the direction of Surabaya to Banyuwangi and vice versa has been completely jammed since 19:00 WIB and currently the water has gradually receded as the rain begins to subside.

The traffic flow of the Situbondo highway has been completely jammed, he continued, the water level on the highway has reached around 40-50 centimeters, so it cannot be passed by vehicles.

"The rain was quite heavy, so the river in Melandingan District was unable to accommodate the flow of water and water overflowed onto the highway," he said.

Sruwi reported that dozens of houses in Melandingan Wetan Village, Bungatan District, were flooded with a height of about one meter.

"The river overflow flood also caused dozens of houses to be submerged in water and the water level reached one meter. Residents have also fled to safer places or higherlands on the border of Sumberpinang Village, Melandingan District," he said.
