Apple Agrees To Pay IDR 326 Billion For Completion Of Apple Watch Battery Swelling Lawsuit

JAKARTA - Apple agreed to pay $20 million, to settle a lawsuit claiming several first-generation Apple Watches, Series 1, and Series 3 had problems with battery swelling.

In a approval document found by Engadget, the compensation will be given to eligible class members. Where each member will be given a minimum compensation of US$20 (Rp328 thousand) per device.

However, if the remaining 50,000 US dollars (IDR 822 million) remains after all compensation is paid, then the amount of compensation received by users can increase to a maximum of 50 US dollars (IDR 822,000).

In the document, it is stated that the class action lawsuit filed against Apple Inc. relates to issues reported on the first generation Apple Watch model, Series 1, Series 2, and Series 3.

The lawsuit includes claims of fraud with the removal of information, implied guarantee violations, and violations of consumer protection laws in California and federal guarantee laws.

The plaintiff claims that Apple is actually aware of the potential for an Apple Watch battery swelling that will cause the screen to fall off, but does not provide this information to consumers.

Nonetheless, Apple has denied wrongdoing and in a statement to TechCrunch. In a statement, Apple said it strongly disagreed with the claims made in the lawsuit, but still "agreed to resolve it to avoid further litigation."
