Less Impressive Sales, LS Lexus Will Be Replaced With A New SUV

JAKARTA - A premium automotive brand from Japan, Lexus plans to replace its flagship sedan, LS, with a seven-seat SUV model. This step was taken because of the less impressive results obtained by this luxury car.
According to Japanese media Mag-X, Friday, January 31, the manufacturer with the L logo is considering the development of a new three-line configurated luxury SUV aimed at VIP buyers.
Reportedly, this car will be proposed as a replacement for its form of LS sedan to be classified as an SUV. The report states that the basic concept of this car is still in the planning stage and it is not certain whether it will continue the naming of 'LS' or not.
Although plotted as a substitute for LS with a 3.5 liter V6 engine, this car will be powered by a 2.4 liter turbocharged 4-cylinder engine assisted by a dual electric motor or the same as the one on MPV LM.
Thus, the machine can offer a fuel efficiency of 6.6 liters/100 km. In addition, plug-in hybrid (PHEV) variants will also be offered in the future.

In addition, it is reported that the SUV will carry the TNGA-K architecture or the same platform as other SUV lines, namely NX and RX.
The report also states that Lexus has the potential to use a rear wheel platform that will also be used in the next generation sports car of the Toyota brand or carry the TNGA-L chassis that underlies LS and LC today.
The publication also explained that this car would be intended for important people including the Japanese Prime Minister who would use an anti-bullet configuration. Then, the SUV is likely to target the Middle East market where a large SUV is becoming very popular.
It is still unclear what the actual dose of this car is. Because it will replace LS as a flagship model, it is likely that the market will collide with LX as the top caste of the SUV offered by Lexus based on the Toyota Land Cruiser.
The current generation of Lexus LS is also announced to have been dropped from the British market after showing its existence for 35 years.
This decision must be taken by the brand following the poor sales of the flagship sedan with only 39 units sold since the decade or 2020, including three units last year.
Another aspect that triggers Lexus to cross out this model is due to homologation and legislation issues. A brand spokesman also said that the increasing popularity of luxury MPV, namely LM, also contributed to this decision.
