Tesla Ready To Revolutionize How People Travel By Operational Autonomous Taxi In Austin In June

CEO Elon Musk confirmed that they would launch an unsupervised Full Self-Driving (FSD) (autonomous) taxi service in Austin, Texas, United States in June. If this is realized it will be the first time Tesla will fully operational autonomous taxi services on highways in the world.
Launching from Teslarati, Thursday, January 30, Musk made this announcement during the company's fourth quarter earnings call. The move follows the launch of Tesla's Robotaxi Cybercab in October 2024, which unveiled their plans to launch driverless ride services in Texas and California by 2025.
Musk explained that Austin was chosen as the first location because Tesla wanted to "sand his fingers in the water" and ensure safety before launching an extensive autonomous driving effort that didn't require a driver.
"We want to prove to ourselves and prove to regulators that vehicles are safer in autonomous mode than not," Musk said.
"We are not far from that. It's like, just a few months," he continued.
