The Indonesian Government Urges Malaysia To Completely Investigate The Shooting Of 5 Indonesian Citizens
JAKARTA - The Indonesian government urges Malaysia to thoroughly investigate the shooting of five Indonesian citizens (WNI) who are also Indonesian migrant workers (PMI) by the Malaysian maritime authorities. This incident resulted in one death and four injuries.
Coordinating Minister for Community Empowerment Abdul Muhaimin Iskandar or Cak Imin hopes that Indonesia and Malaysia can sit down together, overcoming problems with workers, both legal and illegal.
"Regarding this, we hope that the incident will be thoroughly investigated. We ask Malaysia to investigate, so that the tragedy does not happen again," said Cak Imin on the sidelines of a visit to MSME actors at TMII, Jakarta, last Wednesday.
"Let's work together to solve PMI problems, both legal and illegal," he continued.
Cak Imin emphasized that this incident was an important lesson for the two countries in legalizing the pattern of employment. He wants to ensure that PMI delivery to Malaysia has clear legality to avoid similar incidents in the future.
"With this incident, the governments of Indonesia and Malaysia must increase cooperation in legalizing the pattern of employment and solving the problem of illegal workers," said the shooting of five Indonesian citizens in Malaysia.
Cak Imin also highlighted President Prabowo Subianto's recent visit to Malaysia, which is expected to be the basis for further coordination between the relevant ministries in solving PMI problems.
To follow up on this case, Cak Imin plans to ask the Minister of Migrant Worker Protection, Indonesian Ambassadors in Malaysia, and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to immediately sit down to discuss solutions for PMI, both those who work legally and illegally.
"What is legal must be strengthened the quality of life, while the illegal ones must get the best solution," he said.
