Ronald Araujo Remains At Barcelona Until 2031

JAKARTA - Ronald Araujo has signed a new contract with Barcelona, which will tie him to Camp Nou until 2031. The decision ends existing doubts about his future.

The 25-year-old's contract will previously expire in 2026 and he has attracted interest from Juventus, among other clubs, this month.

The signing of the new contract is the end of Araujo's meeting with Barcelona Sports Director Deco.

The Uruguayan player was convinced to stay at Barcelona on Tuesday, January 21, 2025.

Robert Lewandowski also had a hand in Araujo's defense by saying directly that he had to defend.

He told the 25-year-old defender at the celebration after Barcelona beat Real Madrid 5-2 in the Spanish Super Cup, Sunday, January 19, 2025.

Barcelona president, Joan Laporta, also confirmed that he was the one who tried to persuade Araujo to stay afloat.

In the end sweet. Araujo signed his new contract at the club office on Thursday, January 23, 2025, local time, with Deco, Joan Laporta, and Barcelona Vice President, Rafa Yuste.

The defender recently returned from a hamstring injury which ruled him out from the first half of the season.

During that time, Pau Cubarsi and Inigo Martinez collaborated in the midfield of four Blaugrana defenders.

Martinez's injury opened up opportunities for Araujo to return to the team. The Uruguayan international has started in four of Barcelona's last six matches.

Araujo joined Barcelona from a simple Uruguay club, Boston River, in 2018. After playing in the club's reserve team, he played a key role when they won the La Liga title in 2022/2023.

The 25-year-old has made more than 150 appearances for the Blaugrana.

Meanwhile, various factors have caused the player from Uruguay to consider leaving so that his future had a question mark.

Apart from injury, negotiations regarding the new deal did not go quickly. Kubu Araujo defended the terms promised by former Sports Director Mateu Alemany.

There are also other factors that make him pessimistic about staying at Camp Nou. Barcelona had hinted at signing Bayer Leverkusen defender Jonathan Tah, whose contract will expire this summer.

However, these various obstacles can finally be overcome. Araujo, who actually prioritizes staying at Barcelona, has returned to the first team and is Hansi Flick's choice.
