Routine Aerobics Help Reduce Alzheimer's Risk

JAKARTA - Alzheimer's disease is a neurodegenerative disorder that has limited treatment to treat its symptoms, and the development of this disease tends to be unavoidable.

Therefore, many researchers and scientists are constantly looking for ways to reduce the risk of Alzheimer's disease, focusing on lifestyle changes such as healthy diets and exercise that can be applied from an early age.

A recent study conducted by Federal University of Srypto Paulo, published in the journal Brain Research, added new evidence regarding the benefits of aerobic training for brain health.

The study shows exercise can have a direct effect on the biological roots of Alzheimer's disease, and can help reduce the impact of this disease.

Alzheimer's disease is generally characterized by buildup of harmful proteins in the brain, such as amyloid plaque and tau tangledness, as well as increased inflammation of the brain that causes damage to neurons.

In the study, old mice were given an aerobic training program for eight weeks to assess its impact on their brain health.

The results found are quite promising:

In addition to plaque descent and tau tangledness, damage to neurons has also decreased significantly. Aerobic exercise has been shown to increase the number of healthy neurons by 2.5 times compared to mice who do not carry out physical activity.

Brain inflammation also experienced a significant decline, reaching 55 to 68 percent. This research explains how aerobics can reduce the buildup of harmful proteins and improve communication between brain cells.

The study also revealed the important role of microglia, immune cells in the brain, in reducing inflammation and maintaining the health of the brain's environment. Microglia works to clean up cellular debris that can harm the brain and reduce inflammation.

Aerobic drills serve to activate microglia, which helps protect the brain from further damage.

In addition, aerobic exercises also play a role in regulating iron metabolism in the brain, which helps protect neurons from damage due to iron excess.

The results of this study show that aerobics are not only beneficial for physical health, but also provide important protection for brain health. By exercising regularly, the risk of Alzheimer's can be reduced significantly, so that the quality of life in the elderly can be better maintained.
