538 Hectare Sawah Farmers In Sragen Flooded Due To Overflowing Bengawan Solo River Children
SRAGEN - Hundreds of hectares of rice fields in 17 villages in Sragen Regency, Central Java were flooded due to the overflowing of the Bengawan Solo tributary.
Head of the Department of Food Security, Agriculture and Fisheries of Sragen Regency, Eka Rini Mumpuni Titi Lestari, said the flooded rice fields were 538 hectares.
"These are in 17 villages in seven sub-districts," he said in Sragen, Antara, Wednesday, January 22.
He said the rice plants in the inundated rice fields were the first planting season with a rice age of 40-97 days after planting.
"The first planting period is in October-January," he said.
Regarding the possibility of crop failure due to flooded rice plants, his party hopes that the rice plants in Sragen can still be saved.
"I think if it was only inundated for two days, the rice could still be saved. Failed to grow or very small puso, except for more than 3-4 days inundated it would be rotten," he said.
Based on temporary monitoring, there are still several flooded rice fields, but the water level is starting to fall.
"The height has decreased, it is no longer as high as the leaves," he said.
Meanwhile, related to the possibility of providing social assistance to farmers whose rice fields were affected by the flood, he said that until now there has been no such assistance.
"Nothing yet, but if there is a program, we prioritize it. For example, seed assistance or something," he said.
