Responsibility To Attack October 7, Israel's Military Chief Resigns: This Failure Ends Life
JAKARTA - Israeli Chief of Staff Defense Forces (IDF) Lt. Gen. Herzi Halevi announced his resignation of responsibility for failures in the attack of the Palestinian militant group led by Hamas to the south of Israel, which he said would make a lasting impression on his life.
In a letter addressed to Israel's Defense Minister, Lt. Gen. Halevi claimed responsibility for massive security negligence on October 7, 2023, when a cross-border attack occurred.
"I will hand over the IDF command thoroughly and in high quality to my successor," Lieutenant General Halevi wrote.
Lt. Gen. Halevi will officially withdraw on March 6, with time to that date to be used to complete an internal investigation into the October 7 attack and strengthen the IDF to face future security challenges, quoted from The Times of Israel.
Lieutenant General Halevi wrote, realizing the magnitude of responsibility as IDF Chief of Staff, he assessed that the IDF under his command failed in its mission to protect Israeli citizens when the October 7 attacks took place, making Israel pay a high and painful price.
"My responsibility for this terrible failure to accompany me every day, every hour, and will last for the rest of my life," he wrote.
Lieutenant General Halevi said the decision had been taken for a long time, insisting he would forever remain a soldier of the State of Israel.
