The Tangerang sea fence problem arose after as many as 600 personnel from the ranks of the Indonesian National Army (TNI) Navy (AL) and fishermen dismantled the sea fence in the waters last weekend.

Several ways were done by the Indonesian Navy and the community to dismantle the fences made of bamboo, one of which was to tie the bamboo fence with a rope and then towed it with a ship until it collapsed.

The process of dismantling the sea fence was initiated by Indonesian Navy personnel and fishermen on the Tanjung Pasir coastline, Teluknaga District, until it ended on the coast of Kronjo Beach, Kronjo District.

The demolition of the sea fence in the Tanjung Pasir area, Tangerang Regency, Banten was carried out on the orders of President Prabowo Subianto.

The fence had to be dismantled because it interfered with fishermen's activities in making a living. In addition, the sea fence is considered illegal because it was built without clear permission.

The Commander of the Indonesian Navy Main Base (Danlantamal) III Jakarta Brigadier General TNI (Mar) Harry Indarto targets his party to be able to dismantle the sea fence for two kilometers in one day. This target is considered realistic in seeing the many difficulties experienced by the Indonesian Navy in carrying out the demolition.

The process of dismantling the sea fence made of bamboo will be carried out in stages. Overall demolition is targeted for 10 days.

The Ministry of Maritime Affairs and Fisheries (KKP), previously sealed the sea fence and welcomed the community's plan to remove the sea fence in the sea waters of Tangerang Regency.

Installing a sea fence without a permit is something that should not be done. Moreover, the sea fence is in the Capture Fisheries Zone and the Energy Management Zone which can harm fishermen and has the potential to have a negative impact on the coastal ecosystem.

The Ombudsman is currently investigating allegations of mala-administration in sea fencing with a temporary calculation of the loss of IDR 9 billion for the budgeting.

The calculation was carried out by estimating the loss of fishermen due to additional distance to go to sea.
