Israeli Troops Hold Operations In West Bank Jenin

JAKARTA - Israeli security forces began operations in the volatile city of Jenin in the West Bank. But there has been no explanation from the Israeli military for the operation in question.

As reported by Reuters on Tuesday, January 21, prior to Israel's actions, Palestinian security forces carried out weeks of operations to reaffirm control of the city, the main center of the armed militant group.

Military operations in the West Bank, which is occupied by Israel, took place days after the start of the Gaza ceasefire.

Palestinians on Monday began searching for thousands of Gazans believed to be still buried under the rubble during the Hamas-Israeli war.

The ceasefire in the conflict that has lasted for 15 months, destroyed the Gaza Strip and ignited turmoil in the Middle East, took effect on Sunday, January 19, with the release of the first three hostages detained by Hamas and 90 Palestinians released from Israeli prisons.

Now attention is starting to shift to rebuilding coastal areas that have been destroyed by the Israeli military in retaliation for Hamas' attack on Israel on October 7, 2023.

The attack killed 1,200 people and about 250 hostages were held hostage in Gaza, according to Israeli tallies. In further conflict, more than 47,000 Palestinians were killed, Gaza's health ministry said.

"We are looking for 10,000 martyrs whose bodies are still buried in the rubble," said Mahmoud Basal, a Palestinian Civil Emergency Service spokesman.

"At least 2,840 bodies are missing and there are no scars," said Mahmooud.
