The Deputy Minister Of Foreign Affairs Of The Republic Of Indonesia Affirms Two Things That Must Be The Main Focus After The Determination Agreement In Gaza
JAKARTA - Ending the humanitarian crisis and developing a political solution to end the Palestinian-Israeli conflict is two things that must be the main focus, after the agreed ceasefire between Hamas and Israel, said Deputy Foreign Minister of the Republic of Indonesia Arrmanatha Ch. Nasir.
He conveyed this during an open UN DK session discussing the issue of the Middle East and Palestine on Monday at the United Nations Headquarters, New York, United States.
The ceasefire between Hamas and Israel in the Gaza Strip took effect Sunday at 11:15 a.m. local time, after being delayed for more than two and a half hours.
It follows the announcement of a ceasefire agreement and hostages reached after months of mediation by Qatar, Egypt, and the United States, which was carried out last week.
The Indonesian Deputy Foreign Minister said ending the humanitarian crisis was the first focus after the ceasefire in the Palestinian enclave since the latest conflict broke out on October 7, 2023.
The ambassador, who is familiarly called Pak Tata, called for humanitarian aid to be distributed immediately without obstacles, in line with the call of the Secretary General of the United Nations.
The Indonesian Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs also emphasized the importance of guaranteeing safety for humanitarian workers, urging that Gaza reconstruction efforts begin to be prepared, including the lifting of the 18-year blockade that has crippled the Gaza economy.
"The role of UNRWA is very crucial in achieving these steps. DK PBB must protect UNRWA from all threats and disinformation campaigns that attack this institution," said the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Indonesia, in a statement from the Indonesian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Tuesday, January 21.
The second focus continued by the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Indonesia is to develop a comprehensive political solution to end the Palestinian Israeli conflict, by supporting a two-state solution as a way to peace.
He stressed that the two-state solution is the only path to a just future for Palestine and Israel.
"Other alternatives will only produce apartheid and oppression," he stressed.
For this reason, the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Indonesia invites the international community to encourage sincere dialogue, in order to address the root causes of colonialism and historical injustice in Palestine.
The Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs also called for Indonesia's full support and commitment to the success of "High Level International Conference on the Implementation of the Two-State Solution" which will take place next June, as a concrete step in realizing peace.
It is known that the UN DK Open Debate Session this time was led by the Algerian Foreign Minister, Ahmed Attaf, who served as President of the UN DK in January.
