Officially President, Donald Trump Rejects TikTok's Investment Rules For 75 Days

JAKARTA On the first day Donald Trump served as US President, an executive order was immediately issued to restrain the divestment rules against TikTok. Trump wants to restrain his rules for 75 days.

The former 45th president, citing The Verge, ordered the Department of Justice (DOJ) not to ban TikTok operations because the platform is still under ByteDance. Basically, this order was issued to extend the deadline for sales.

In a directed order, Trump stated that the Attorney General, "does not (be allowed) to take any action to enforce the law for a period of 75 days from today to provide an opportunity for my government to determine the right actions in the future."

In addition to being asked to let TikTok operate longer, the Attorney General needs to issue letters to all service providers, such as Apple and Google. In the letter, the Attorney General must clarify the safety of service providers.

Neither Apple, Google, nor other service providers are allowed to continue distributing the TikTok app. They will not be subject to a violation of the law and no action needs to be accounted for for for TikTok's distribution.

Meanwhile, Trump stated that the DOJ, "is not allowed to take any action to enforce the law or impose any sanctions on any entity for any non-compliance with the law."

With the issuance of this order, TikTok can operate for the next few months. However, there is no guarantee of whether Trump can free TikTok completely from the divestment law, moreover the US Supreme Court has decided that TikTok must comply with the rules.

Apparently, Trump is trying to keep TikTok in the US with other alternatives. The US president stated on January 19 that the US government should own 50 percent of TikTok's shares through a 'coup venture'. However, it has not been explained how this plan will be realized.
