LH Sub-Department: Busa In Kamal Muara River Due To Polder Pump Turbulence
JAKARTA - The North Jakarta Environmental Service (LH) has revealed large amounts of foam in Kapuk Kamal, Penjaringan, North Jakarta, due to the turbulence of Kamal's polder pump operating in the area.
"Busa ini akibat pompa polder dari air SungaiKamal menuju muara sungai dengan kapasitas 10 ribu liter per detik," kata Kepala Suku Dinas Lingkungan Hidup (LH) Jakarta Utara Edy Mulyanto dilansir ANTARA, Jumat, 17 Januari.
He said the foam would disappear after 15 minutes the pump engine died. Today his party immediately made a visit to the location to ensure water conditions.
"We are checking for water pollution (foam surface water) and air pollution (preference)," he said.
His party has carried out periodic monitoring of the quality of surface water with the results of monitoring in 2023 showing severe contamination. Meanwhile, the results of monitoring in 2024 show moderately polluted results.
Furthermore, surface water samples will be taken which will then be examined at the environmental laboratory in the DKI Jakarta Province at two locations in the Kamal River.
The polder pump operates alternately based on surface water levels and will stop operating automatically with an operating duration of each hour.
He explained that the flood pump functions to control flooding around the Kamal River basin. Hulu Sungai Kamal is located in Kalideres (West Jakarta) with the downstream river at the mouth of the Kamal River (North Jakarta).
"The Kamal River functions to receive flow from surrounding PHB channels with the designation of most of them residential areas and some industries that have the potential to produce domestic waste water," he said.

Previously, residents of Penjaringan, North Jakarta, complained that Kali Kamal was covered in thick foam and emitted a pungent odor that was disturbing when passing through the area.
"Usa putih memang muncul setiap hari di Kali Kamal. Dalam satu hari,foam itu muncul sebanyak tiga kali," kata warga Kali Kamal bernama Amel (24) di Jakarta, Kamis.
He said the morning time was around 08.00 WIB, noon at 12.00 WIB and in the afternoon at 18.00 WIB. The appearance of the white foam since 2024 and comes from the Kali Kamal pump house.
He said every time the pump dumps water into Kamal River, it must be accompanied by foam. "If the pump is opened or the road just takes out foam," he said.
