Psychological Effects Of Jagat Coin Games, Can Trigger Stress On Players

JAKARTA - The treasure hunting game Coin Jagat which is going viral not only offers excitement, but also triggers various types of stress for its players. This phenomenon, despite providing entertainment, can cause positive stress (eustress) or negative stress (distress) that affects players' daily lives.

Positive stress arises when players feel motivated to participate, while negative stress arises when the game interferes with their focus and main tasks.

Clinical psychologist from the University of Indonesia's Applied Psychology Institute (LPTUI), Anna Surti Ariani, S.Psi., M.S., explained that this game has a complex effect on the mentality of its players. This topic creates stress on both sides; positive stress that spurs enthusiasm, or negative stress that makes it difficult for players to think about other things besides hunting for coins," explained Anna Surti Ariani, as quoted by ANTARA.

According to Nina, coin hunting also has the potential to make players lose focus on their daily obligations. "Sometimes they leave their main task or find it difficult to concentrate on things that are actually more priority," she added.

Despite the risk of negative stress, this game also has a positive side that can support players' mental development. For example, Nina highlights the creativity that grows when players try to find a coin location. "Players become more creative and think outside the box to determine the location or strategy of finding coins," he said.

In addition, this game also tests the mentality of the players. Those who did not immediately manage to find coins were trained to keep trying and move to other locations, thereby fostering hope in life.

"Hope is important, especially for those who may feel lost in their lives," Nina said.

However, Nina also warned of the bad effects of this phenomenon, especially the behavior of players who damage public facilities due to the lack of literacy in reading the rules.

"As far as I know, this application has warned against damaging public facilities or entering prohibited areas. But many do not read the rules," he explained.

Some players tend to be selfish and only think about personal gain. They don't care about the impact of damaging public or emotional facilities when they don't manage to find the coins they're looking for. "There are players who are angry if they don't find coins, until they finally act without caring about their environment," Nina added.

In addition, the risk of conflict between players is also quite high.

"A fight can happen if some players compete in the same location, especially if they are unable to manage their emotions," Nina said.

Nina appealed to application managers to cooperate more closely with local governments and security forces so that negative impacts such as damage to public facilities or conflicts between players can be minimized.

"This cooperation is important to prevent further losses and maintain public order," he explained.

The Jagat Coin game is part of the Jagat application that offers opportunities for users to hunt coins that can be exchanged for prizes worth millions of rupiah. This event took place in Jakarta in December 2024, and managed to attract the attention of many circles.
