Blue Velvet Director David Lynch Dies At The Age Of 78

JAKARTA - Sad news came from director David Lynch, who was reported to have died at the age of 78. The legendary director was announced by the family through an upload on Facebook.

There is a big hole in the world now when he is not with us. But as he said, 'Focus your views on the donuts not on the hole' wrote the family representing David Lynch.

In 2024, Lynch revealed he was diagnosed with an emphysema for smoking throughout his life and he could not leave the house to work on the film.

David Lynch debuted as director in 1977 through the film Eraserhead after years of being a painter and making a short animated film. His first film gained attention thanks to the horror that was offered different from the style of the story and stole attention.

Success at the beginning still made Lynch encounter a stumbling block. In 1984, he worked on Dune which was adapted from Frank Herbalett's novel. But the film received a negative response to being called a flop in theaters considering the production budget which reached 40 million US dollars.

The situation did not make him give up. Two years later, Lynch presented the films Blue Velvet and Wild Heart in 1990 which earned the Palme d'Or at the Cannes Film Festival.

In the same year, he worked on the Twin Peaks series with Mark Frost which tells of the mysterious murder in Washington. His first season was a hit with various scenes that are still a reference to date, but different from his second season.

David Lynch's film tide lasted until he worked on Mulholland Drive, Inland Empire, to The Straight Story he made for Disney.

Born on January 20, 1946, David Lynch earned Lifetime Achievemt from Oscar 2020, Independent Spirit and Golden Lion at the Venice film festival. He is also known for his collaboration with actress Laura Palmer on a number of projects.

In 2022, David Lynch appeared as John Ford in Steven Spielberg's film The Fablemans. He also focuses on making music videos and designing several places and making David Lynch Graduate School of Cinematic Arts at Maharishi University.

That same year, Lynch made an internet breakthrough by releasing a Weather Report video that is still being discussed today.

Throughout his life, David Lynch married four times and left two daughters and two sons.
