UK-Ukraine Sign '100 Year Partnership' Agreement
JAKARTA - The leaders of Britain and Ukraine will sign a "100 Years Partnership" agreement on Thursday (16/1) to strengthen security and partnership relations for future generations.
Regarding the agreement, the British Prime Minister arrived in Kiev to promise additional support for Ukraine.
The agreement will strengthen military collaboration in maritime security through a new framework aimed at strengthening security in the Baltic Sea, the Black Sea and the Azov Sea, as well as preventing ongoing Russian aggression, according to a statement issued by the Keir Starmer office.
As reported by ANTARA from Anadolu, Thursday, January 16, this step was carried out in conjunction with Starmer's first visit to the Ukrainian capital as prime minister, to meet with President Volodymyr Zelenskyy.
The agreement, known as the 100 Years Partnership, will strengthen security relations between the two countries for future generations, according to the statement.
The two leaders will also launch a new grain verification scheme developed in the UK "to track the stolen wheat from occupied Ukrainian territory".
The partnership, based on the statement, includes nine main pillars and will take advantage of Ukraine's innovation, strength, and resilience against Russia, while supporting Britain and Ukraine's long-term security and growth.
The agreement and political declaration, which is part of the 100-year Partnership, is expected to be introduced to the British Parliament in the coming weeks.
Starmer is also expected to announce additional support from Britain for Ukraine, from military aid to economic resilience aspects.
"The success of our long-term friendship cannot be underestimated," the British Prime Minister said in a statement before meeting Zelenskyy.
