This Is The Sound Of Hino Motors Agreement With The US Government Regarding The Disposal Gas Emission Scandal
JAKARTA - Hino Motors, Ltd. (Hino) today announced in an official broadcast that the company has reached an agreement with the United States (US) government authorities to resolve the issue of exhaust emissions on old truck engines.
This issue was previously revealed in March 2022 and relates to the process of testing and engine performance in the US market.
Hino has agreed to pleaded guilty and paid a fine of US$521.76 million to the US Department of Justice (DOJ), a civil fine of US$442.5 million to US authorities, and US$236.5 million to the state of California.
As a form of repair, citing his press release, Hino will repair the 2017-2019 Model Year truck engine and run an environmental mitigation program to reduce the impact of excess exhaust emissions in the past and in the future.

Hino Motors president & CEO Satoshi Ogiso has also apologized for the inconvenience caused and confirmed the company's commitment to prevent a similar incident from recurring.
Hino Motors stressed that this agreement does not affect the performance and security of Hino vehicles that are already operating on US roads. The production and sale of the latest Hino trucks that use engines from third parties will also not be affected.
Meanwhile, Hino Motors also mentioned a strategy to prevent a similar recurrence by conducting a thorough investigation to understand the causes of the problem, strengthen the company's governance and compliance system, reform the company's management, organization, and culture, separate the function of development and machine certification, and improve the regulatory information management system.
With these steps, Hino Motors hopes to regain stakeholders' trust and operate according to the company's core values.
