KKP Admits It Takes Time To Unload Sea Fences On The Tangerang Coast

TANGERANG - The Ministry of Maritime Affairs and Fisheries (KKP) is still hunting for the perpetrators of the 30.16 km sea fence installation which stretches from Teluknaga to Kronjo, Tangerang Regency.

Director of Supervision of Marine Resources Management (PSDKP) KKP, Halid Yusuf said he would take firm action against the person in charge of the bamboo fence on the Tangerang coast.

He said that his party would take legal action to process the alleged perpetrator further. This is because the mysterious bamboo fence does not have a permit and has disrupted 3,888 fishermen in the surrounding area.

However, if the perpetrator has not been found, the KKP will immediately dismantle the bamboo by involving a number of surrounding communities.

"We will take firm action. We are currently still investigating who will appear as the person in charge in this fasting mechanism," said Yusuf, Wednesday, January 15.

Regarding the demolition, Yusuf admitted that he had injured time. Because later it will require heavy equipment.

"We will take firm action. Of course, in this demolition it will take 30 km, it will take a long time. It takes heavy equipment to revoke it," he added.

As for the demolition plan, continued Halid, internal discussions are still being carried out at the KKP. It is possible that after two days of inspection on this island, his party will determine the solution.

"Maybe in one or two days there will be a solution when the demolition will begin," he said.

Previously, the Ombudsman urged the Ministry of Maritime Affairs and Fisheries (KKP) to immediately dismantle a 30.16 km sea fence on the coast of Tangerang Regency, because it is illegal and detrimental to thousands of local fishermen.

"From the information from the KKP, it is clear that this (sea fence) is not licensed. So it has been sealed. The Ombudsman urged the KKP to immediately demolish the fence, because it is detrimental to fishermen," said Ombudsman member Yeka Hendra Fatika, Wednesday, January 15.

This was said by Yeka after conducting an inspection at the sea fencing location in Kronjo District, Tangerang Regency.

During this inspection, the Ombudsman also invited related parties such as the KKP, the Ministry of ATR/BPN, the Coordinating Ministry for Economic Affairs, the Ministry of Environment and the Banten Provincial Government to ask for information directly.

The Ombudsman highlighted the problem of public services, namely that fishermen's access to make a living at sea has become disrupted. Yeka estimates the loss of fishermen over the past 5 months has reached at least Rp9 billion.

For this reason, the Ombudsman will monitor the follow-up to the KKP regarding the acceleration of the demolition of the sea fence in the Banten area.

"Because this sea fence has been going on for a long time since August 2024, there should be no need to wait 20 days for the demolition. However, it is necessary to prepare resources to carry out this demolition," he said.
