Airlangga Reveals Government Prepares Mitigation Steps For Impact Of US Trade Tariffs
Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs Airlangga Hartarto said Indonesia would prepare mitigation measures against trade tariff policies with the United States (US) through bilateral cooperation agreements.
"We are asking that there will be bilateral economic cooperation, so that we lower the tariff," said Airlangga after the 2025 IBC Business Competitiveness Outlook event, Monday, January 13.
One of the trade cooperation that can be pursued is through a free trade agreement (FTA).
Airlangga explained that so far the US has imposed trade rates for imported products from Indonesia in the textile and commodity industries.
"For us with America, America charges us tariffs. So America charges for shoes, for clothes, and for our various commodities," he said.
Meanwhile, Airlangga said, Vietnam was not subject to trade rates by the US.

He considered that Indonesia was quite used to the tariffs applied by the United States.
"Meanwhile, what is not subject to tariffs is Vietnam. So we are already a bit immune with the tariffs that America imposes on Indonesia," he explained.
