UAE Immediately Opens Again Embassy In Lebanoon

The United Arab Emirates (UAE) high-level delegation is in Lebanon to arrange a reopening of the UAE embassy in Beirut after more than three years.

Reported by Reuters from the WAM state news agency, the arrival of the delegation on Sunday, January 12, came a day after UAE President Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan and Lebanese President newly elected Joseph Aoun agreed to take the necessary steps to reopen the embassy.

The UAE withdrew its diplomat from Lebanon and closed the embassy in October 2021, in line with Saudi Arabia after then Lebanese information ministers criticized the involvement of the Saudi-led coalition in Yemen.

Saudi foreign ministers at the time pointed to Hezbollah's dominance over Lebanese politics, but most of the group's main leaders have been killed and many of their strongholds in Lebanon destroyed after more than a year's war with Israel.

President Aoun said countries including the UAE and Saudi Arabia were open to rebuilding diplomatic relations, Lebanese Parliament Deputy Speaker Elias Bou Saab said in a televised address.
