New Bird Species From Rote Named Iriana Widodo In Today's Memory, January 11, 2018

JAKARTA Memories of today, seven years ago, January 11, 2018, a new bird species from Rote, East Nusa Tenggara (NTT) was officially named after First Lady Iriana Joko Widodo. The naming was given because Iriana is known to be active in driving nature conservation, especially bird conservation.

Siti also wrote to Jokowi as President of Indonesia to ask for permission to use the name Iriana for the bird on October 30, 2017. The bird in question is a bird found by the Indonesian Institute of Sciences (LIPI) researcher, Dewi M. Prawradilaga.

The bird is planned to be given the scientific name Myzomela irianawidodoe. The bird in question belongs to the Melliphagidae family and is included in protected animals.

"This birdamily is protected according to PP Number 7 of 1999 and Law Number 5 of 1990 concerning Conservation of Biological Natural Resources and Their Ecosystems. The bird with a body weight of 32.23 grams has a body length of 17.2 centimeters (from the half to the tip of the tail) and a half length of 1.79 centimeters.

"And a wingspan of 1.72 centimeters, then a wing length of 5.8 centimeters. Then a tail length of 3.7 centimeters, and a foot height of 1.67 centimeters," wrote Siti in a letter numbered S.353/Menlhk/Setjen/KSA.2/2017 quoted by the Kumparan page, October 30, 2017.

This wish has just received the blessing of President Jokowi. Finally, the new bird species from Rote, NTT, was officially named Iriana Widodo (Myzomela irianawidodoe) on January 11, 2018. The confirmation was made directly by the Ministry of Environment and Forestry and Fisheries.

Siti considers the giving of the scientific name Myzomela irianawidodoe to be very meaningful. Siti considers Iriana to be a person who contributes to natural conservation, especially the preservation of birds in Indonesia.
