Pelindo Supports The Tourism Sector To Welcome The Coral Geographer Cruise Ship

JAKARTA - PT Pelabuhan Indonesia (Persero) as part of the State-Owned Enterprises (BUMN) which is the driver of the national logistics sector is committed to continuing to improve service quality, especially at Makassar Port by welcoming cruise ship passengers MV Coral Geographer.

"We support the development of the tourism sector, especially in South Sulawesi by preparing various international standard facilities and services, ranging from dock security to optimal guided and delayed services when receiving visits from Australian-flagged cruise ships, Coral Geographers," said General Manager of Regional Pelindo 4 Makassar, Iwan Sjarifuddin in Makassar, quoted by Antara, Saturday 11 January.

He said Pelindo was also working with local authorities to ensure the comfort and security of foreign tourists carried by cruise ships operated by the Coral Expeditions while in Makassar.

The visit of international cruise ships, which is part of a cross-border tourist trip, is one proof that Makassar Port is increasingly in demand as a world maritime tourist destination.

Iwan said the cruise ship visit was the result of joint efforts between Pelindo, the local government, and the tourism community in promoting tourism potential in South Sulawesi.

"We are very proud to receive a Coral Geographer visit at Makassar Port. This is a momentum to strengthen Makassar's position as one of the gates for maritime tourism in Eastern Indonesia," said Iwan.

Coral Geographer, which docked at Soekarno-Hatta Pier, carried as many as 46 passengers who are foreign tourists from Australia, the United States, and Switzerland.

The tourists who arrived that morning had the opportunity to visit various leading destinations in Makassar City, including Fort Rotterdam, Losari Beach, and a number of culinary tourist sites typical of South Sulawesi.

The arrival of the Coral Geographer, led by Captain Andrew Robert Conigrave, was also colored with a warm welcome by a number of young women who performed traditional dances that reflected the typical friendliness of South Sulawesi.

Tourists are also greeted with suggestions from various local culinary delights and regional handicrafts which are local cultural wealth by a number of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) traders in their respective tenants located at the Anging Mammiri Passenger Terminal.

Rahmat Riberu, from the ship agent PT Lestari Abadi Serasi expressed his appreciation for the services provided by Pelindo and the warm welcome from the people of Makassar.

Coral Geographer is a luxury cruise ship operated by a shipping company from Australia. While in Indonesia, this cruise ship on the Makassar Darwin route, Australia will circle around 20 islands in Eastern Indonesia.

Before docking at Makassar Port, this cruise ship visited Marabatuan Island, which is an island located in the administrative area of Pulau Sembilan District, Kotabaru Regency, South Kalimantan. Furthermore, in South Sulawesi, tourists were taken to Bulukumba, then Palopo and continued to Tanajampea Island which was located in Selayar Regency.

With the increasing frequent visits of international cruise ships, Pelindo is committed to continuing to improve the quality of services, especially at Makassar Port and support the development of the tourism sector, especially in South Sulawesi.
