GIS Collaborates With Resinergi To Increase The Use Of Alternative Fuels From Urban Waste
JAKARTA - PT Semen Indonesia (Persero) Tbk (SIG) continues to strive to increase the portion of refuse-derived fuel (RDF) or alternative fuel from urban solid waste (municipal solid waste) for coal substitution in cement production in GIS-owned factories. One of these efforts is realized by cooperating with PT Reciraya Semesta Energi (RENYNERGI) to ensure a sustainable RDF supply chain.
The collaboration between SIG and ENGINEERGI was marked by the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding related to the Refuse-Derived Fuel Provision Cooperation by the Director of Operations for SIG, Reni Wulandari and the President Director of VENERGY, Bhima Aries Diyanto in the Plenary Room of the Head Office of SIG, South Quarter, Jakarta, on Monday 6 January.
GIS President Director Donny Arsal said climate change triggered by greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions is a big threat to global life and development. In line with the momentum of economic growth, Indonesia is making a green economy transition that prioritizes inclusive and fair low-carbon development. Indonesia has committed to reducing GRK emissions by 2030 by 31.89 percent.
"As a state-owned company, SIG plays a role in supporting the government to achieve a national commitment to reduce GRK emissions, by reducing carbon emissions in the cement production process through the utilization of RDF. This initiative is in line with the Sustainability Roadmap or SIG 2030, as well as the direction of the Ministry of SOEs to increase the action to reduce GRK emissions in business operations," said Donny Arsal.
Donny Arsal added, SIG is a pioneer in the cement industry in the utilization of RDF since 2020. Currently, GIS continues to strive to increase the portion of RDF use and has prepared a need planning for all cement factories owned by the Company. This collaboration with RESEARCH AND GENIERGI is expected to create a waste management ecosystem in a sustainable manner to meet the RDF supplies needed by GIS.
"The signing of this MOU is a momentum for both parties to work together in improving the management and utilization of urban waste with local governments. GIS is committed to acting as an offtaker of RDF which results from waste management facilities according to needs and with good governance principles," said Donny Arsal.
ENGINEERGI is a company engaged in collection, management, disposal, maintenance of harmless waste waste, material recovery, which currently has a partnership with several district governments to manage Integrated Waste Processing Sites (TPST).

The President Director of VENERGY, Bhima Aries Diyanto, positively welcomed the collaboration between SIG and ENGINEERGI which was driven by the same spirit to address the waste problem. The agenda for signing this Memorandum of Understanding is an effort to present the waste management method in a sustainable manner.
This is the foundation for us together, from the waste management industry with building material solutions as offtakers that will be benchmarks for other companies. Hopefully, our efforts will be blessed and sustainable, because what we do will provide tremendous benefits, not only for the environment but also for the livelihoods of many parties," said Bhima Aries Diyanto.
