BI Reveals Retail Sales Index Grows In December 2024
JAKARTA - Bank Indonesia (BI) reports that retail sales performance is expected to increase in December 2024.
This is reflected in the Real Sales Index (IPR) in December 2024 which is predicted to reach 220.3 or an annual growth of 1.0 percent (yoy), higher than the growth in the previous month of 211.5.
Executive Director of the BI Communication Department, Ramdan Denny Prakoso, said that the increase was mainly sourced from the Parts of Cadang and Accessori, as well as Food, Drinks and Tobacco.
On a monthly basis, retail sales are predicted to accelerate with growth of 5.1 percent (mtm) after contracting by 0.4 percent (mtm) in the previous month.
"The group with the highest growth is the Sandang Subgroup, followed by the Food, Beverage, and Tobacco Groups, as well as the Parts of Cadang and Accessori in line with the increasing public demand ahead of the celebration of the Christmas and New Year National Religious Holidays (HBKN)," he said in his statement, Friday, January 10.
Denny said that in November 2024, IPR was recorded at 209.7 or an annual growth of 0.9 percent (yoy), lower than growth in October 2024 of 1.5 percent (yoy).
According to Denny, growth in November 2024 was mainly driven by the Motor Vehicle Fuel Group, Parts of Cadang and Accessori, as well as Food, Drinks, and Tobacco.
Meanwhile, monthly, retail sales in November 2024 contracted 0.4 percent (mtm), after recording a contraction of 0.01 percent (mtm) in the previous month.
In terms of price, inflationary pressures for the next 3 months in February 2025 are forecast to increase, while inflation for the next 6 months in May 2025 is forecast to decline.

Denny said this was reflected in the February 2025 General Price Expectation Index (IEH) of 160.2, higher than IEH in the previous period of 157.8 in line with the historical average price increase ahead of Ramadan in the last 3 years.
Meanwhile, IEH May 2025 was recorded at 151.1, lower than the previous period which was 165.4 in line with the normalization of post-HBKN Idulfitri demand.
