Feeling Passing On A Roofless JPO

JAKARTA - The sound of a vehicle engine can be heard in the ear. The speed of the vehicle seems endless. Motorbikes, cars, to buses, passing on the highway.

Not to be outdone, the occasional horn sound was heard. The whistle blowing from the security guard had caught the eye. They rebuked the motorists who stopped by the side of the road.

The heat today is not as bad as it was a few weeks ago when the temperature was at its hottest. The sun seemed friendlier. Although the feeling of heat can still be felt if it is in the open long enough.

This condition was felt when he was at the Pedestrian Bridge (JPO), Jalan Jenderal Sudirman, South Jakarta. The facility is currently being discussed because it does not have a roof like other JPOs.

To be above the crossing facility, dozens of concrete steps have been welcomed. With a width of about one meter, the staircase colored metallic and maroon must be traversed.

After passing through, then the public facilities that are busy talking can be stepped on. The concrete bridge about 30 meters long stretches, dividing the Jalan Jenderal Sudirman.

Metallic iron stands upright on the left and right as a barrier. The Indofood Tower building area and the car sales office are connected to the bridge.

From the top of the bridge, a gentle breeze reduces sunburn. Indeed, you can feel the heat when you are there, especially during the day when it's hot. Even though the hat and jacket have been worn, it is not enough to block out the sun exposure.

As we crossed the bridge, we could see six officials from the DKI Jakarta clan development. They painted the iron border maroon. Previously, the iron was metallic in color. In addition, several pedestrians were also seen using the public facilities.

Meirul, a JPO user, said that the roofless pedestrian bridge has an impact on pedestrians. This is because for him the function of the JPO is not only to cross but also to take shelter from the hot sun and heavy rain.

"If the roof is opened, it becomes hot, we who use JPO, especially we also find it difficult because this is the rainy season," he said while blocking his view from the sun.

In fact, regarding the statement by the Governor of DKI Jakarta Anies Baswedan, the community responded that the crossing bridge would become a selfie spot with a quite strange answer, namely, there are many ways to make it a good place to take pictures.

"Yes, there can be many ways (to beautify the JPO), such as the roof being raised or something else," he said.

Meanwhile, another JPO passer, Vita, has no problem with this roofless bridge. He is a loyal user of JPO. This is because the woman in the veil is an employee of a company located near the JPO. According to him, even though the pedestrian bridge has no roof, the function of these public facilities has not changed.

"This JPO is for crossing, so there is or does not have a roof, so it is not a problem for me personally." he said.

In fact, whether or not there is a roof on the overpass, the heat will still be felt. He said who often crosses this bridge. Moreover, the city of Jakarta is synonymous with the scorching heat of the sun.

It's just that, he admits, when it rains, the roof on the bridge is considered very useful as a shelter. Because, around the JPO location, there are not many places to avoid the rain.

"Maybe when it rains it's hard. But if it doesn't rain it won't be a problem," he said.
