A Couple Who Kidnapped An Elderly Named Muhamadiah In Muaro Jambi Asked For Rp5 Million In Ransom
Jambi - Muaro Jambi Police revealed the kidnapping and confinement of an elderly person in a house, Pematang Gajah Village, Jambi Out of town. The perpetrators turned out to be a married couple, Ambo Upe (39) and Sapgestiatu Sentya (31).
Kasatreskrim Muaro Jambi Police AKP Hanafi Dita Utama said the couple also asked the victim's family for a ransom of Rp. 5 million. Currently, officers are hunting down two other suspects.
"Currently, the two other alleged perpetrators are DPO status," explained Hanafi in Jambi as quoted by Antara, Friday, January 10.
The incident began on Tuesday, January 7, when the victim's sister named Lamelo was contacted by the perpetrator using the victim's device. The perpetrator asked for a ransom of Rp. 5 million because he had arrested the victim named Muhammadaah (65).
The perpetrator promised to release the victim if he had received the money. If not given, the victim will be taken to Lampung. After getting the call, Lamelo immediately reported the incident to the Muaro Jambi Police.
The day after, the police received information on the whereabouts of the perpetrator in Pematang Gajah Village, Jambi Outside the City. The team headed to the location and arrested two perpetrators.
The police immediately went to the location of the victim's confinement in the old house belonging to the perpetrator Ambo Upe. The victim was found handcuffed, tied in a chain in an iron rod.
Police secured evidence in the form of a car, an airsoft unit, a pack of round bullets, two airsoft gases, a hammer, a knife, a challenge with a length of 1 meter, handcuffs, and a cell phone.

For his actions, said Kasatreskrim, the two perpetrators were charged with Article 333 paragraph (1) of the Criminal Code concerning the crime of confiscation of a person's independence intentionally or maintaining confiscation.
