Pope Criticizes Israel's Military Operations Against Gaza Embarrassing Amid Deadly Winter

JAKARTA - Pope Francis has stepped up his recent criticism of Israel's military operations in Gaza, calling the humanitarian situation in the Palestinian territories "very serious and embarrassing".

In his annual address to diplomats delivered by his aide, Pope Francis referred to deaths caused by the winter of Gaza, where there was almost no electricity.

"We absolutely cannot accept the bombing of civilians," Pope Francis said in a speech.

We cannot accept that children are cold dead because hospitals are destroyed or a country's energy network is affected.

The Pope was present for the speech but asked an aide to read it out because he was recovering from the flu.
