The SGAR Mempawah Project Implements Sustainable Water Management
JAKARTA - BUMN Mining Industry Holding Indonesia MIND ID implements the best system in water management at Smelter Grade Alumina Refinery (SGAR) in Mempawah, West Kalimantan, which is operated by PT Borneo Alumina Indonesia.
MIND ID's Corporate Secretary, Heri Yusuf said, the use of water is not only to meet production operational needs standards, but is also part of a long-term strategy in protecting the environment.
He explained that SGAR has utilities facilities ranging from production wastewater treatment stations to water-intake stations.
"Through an integrated water management system, we are trying to reduce surface water consumption, and ensure that the water used can be processed, recycled, and returned to an environment with quality according to standards," he said, Thursday, January 9.
Heri explained that the integrated water management process starts from the treatment of raw water at the Intake Water Station, distribution and storage through the River Water Regulating Pool, to purification at the Water Purification Plant.
Production wastewater is processed at the Production Wastewater Treatment Station with the latest technology to ensure its quality before being recycled or returned to the environment.
SGAR also optimizes the use of rainwater through Rainwater Collecting Pool where the stored water is processed and reused for various operational needs.
Domestic waste from daily activities is processed at the Domestic Selange Treatment Plant, which implements a series of anaerobic, anodic, aerobic, and precipitation processes to ensure wastewater is free from harmful contaminants before being released into the water agency.
In addition, the Demineralized Water Plant facility in SGAR ensures the availability of high quality water to support production processes that require specific standards.
With dem Neralization technology, the resulting water is free from mineral salt content and ready to be used in various production activities that require high accuracy.

Heri Yusuf added that the success of the water management system in SGAR cannot be separated from the application of cutting-edge technology and the commitment to continue to improve operational efficiency.
"The principle of reduce, reuse, and recycle is the foundation in every step we manage water in SGAR. This approach not only helps us meet environmental standards, but also ensures water resources are maintained for operational sustainability in the future," said Heri.
