PSSI Pays Tens Of Billions As Compensation For Shin Tae-yong's Dismissal

PSSI officially kicked Shin Tae-yong out of the head coach of the Indonesian national team on Monday, January 6, 2025.

The decision forced the federation to spend tens of billions to pay compensation to the South Korean coach.

PSSI Executive Committee (Exco) member, Arya Sinulingga, said PSSI had also paid compensation for Shin Tae-yong's dismissal.

The large compensation rate arose because Shin Tae-yong had just signed a new contract until 2027.

"In terms of finance, tens of billions of rupiah that we have to pay (for compensation). (The obligation) must also be taken," said Arya Sinulingga.

Arya further emphasized that Shin Tae-yong's dismissal had nothing to do with the football mafia, as was widely discussed by netizens.

According to him, if this dismissal has anything to do with the football mafia, then PSSI will not make the decision to expel Shin Tae-yong and pay the tens of billions of compensation.

Arya said PSSI took this step for the Red-White Team as well as adjustments to the character of the players, the majority of whom were inhabited by diaspora players from Europe.

This reason is one of the basis for PSSI's decision to look for coaches who have leadership in the dressing room and understand the character of the Garuda Squad, which incidentally grew in Europe.

"Our consequences are taking the players of the diaspora who are getting higher for a longer time. So, we need a coach leader."

"Well, accompanied by a strong technical assistant coach," said Arya again.

Therefore, PSSI then chose Patrick Kluivert as the new coach of the Indonesian national team to replace Shin Tae-yong.

The Dutch coach has officially reached an agreement with PSSI on Wednesday, January 8, 2025. He will be introduced to the public on January 12, 2025, the day after arriving in Indonesia.
