Minister Of Religion Says Discourse On School Holidays During Ramadan Is Still Being Reviewed

Minister of Religion Nasaruddin Umar said the discourse of school holidays during Ramadan, which has strengthened recently, is still in the study stage.

"It is being studied," said Minister of Religion Nasaruddin as quoted by ANTARA, Wednesday, January 8.

The discourse on school holidays during Ramadan was previously revealed by the Deputy Minister of Religion, Father Muhammad Syafi i some time ago. However, Syafi'i said there had been no discussion about it.

School holidays during Ramadan have been implemented in the era of the fourth President of the Republic of Indonesia Abdurrahman Wahid or Gus Dur, so that he is more focused on studying religious science and is solemn in worship.

Nevertheless, Secretary General of the Indonesian Ulema Council (MUI) Amirsyah Tambunan said the discourse of school holidays during Ramadan should be filled with various fun education.

Amirsyah emphasized that education must continue by taking into account the role of parents and teachers, so that there is no term "holiday" in a detrimental sense.

"In principle, education must all be responsible, parents, including school teachers, so there is no term holiday in the sense of loss. Because if it's a holiday in the sense of loss, it will be a hassle for parents," said Amirsyah.

According to him, school holidays in the wrong sense, namely without useful activities, will actually add to the burden on parents who work, especially if children are left without educational activities.

He suggested that a fun education solution could be found during Ramadan, such as a flash pesantren program that could enrich children's experiences with religious education and spiritual values.

Meanwhile, the Minister of Elementary and Secondary Education, Abdul Mu'ti, said some time ago that there had been no discussion regarding school holidays during the fasting month, and this was still a discourse at the Ministry of Religion, not yet in the form of a decision.

He also did not know whether the discourse would be discussed at the coordinating ministry level or directly discussed under the president.

"This is because it concerns national holidays, of course, I think a joint decision must be made across ministries. So we cannot make decisions regarding the Ramadan holiday," said Abdul Mu'ti.
