Malaysia Open 2025: Ginting Qualifies For Round Of 16

JAKARTA The men's singles badminton player Anthony Sinisuka Ginting managed to qualify for the second round of the Malaysia Open 2025 after beating China Taipei's representative, Chia Hao Lee.

Ginting stopped his opponent with a score of two straight games 21-12 and 21-18 at Axiata Arena, Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, on Wednesday, January 8, 2025, noon WIB.

"Quite happy with today's performance, we can overcome all obstacles in the field," Ginting said in a statement received from PBSI Public Relations.

This victory made Ginting maintain the hope of the Indonesian men's singles. He is now the only Indonesian men's singles left in this event.

Earlier this morning, his colleague Jonatan Christie had already picked up the suitcase. Jojo, Jonatan's nickname, returned home after a dramatic loss of three games versus the French representative, Toma Junior Popov.

Furthermore, Ginting will meet Kunlavut Vitidsarn. The fifth seed from Thailand qualified for the second round after beating French representative Alex Lanier.

Ginting refuses to burden himself with any target in this tournament. He hopes to be able to maintain the good performance that exists today.

"I want to be more consistent in implementing the strategy. Fast and precise reading the changes to the opponent and field conditions," said the badminton player from West Java.

Ginting's survival allows Indonesia to expect a lot to end the drought of the Indonesian men's singles title at the Malaysia Open which has lasted more than two decades.

The last time Indonesian men's singles raised their title in this event was in the 2000 edition. The title was obtained by the owner of the Olympic gold medal, Taufik Hidayat.
