Russia Says Ukraine Lost 49,800 Soldiers, Hundreds Of Tanks, To HIMARS In Kursk

JAKARTA - Russia's Ministry of Defense in its report Tuesday claimed Ukraine had lost about 49,830 troops since clashes broke out in Kursk.

"In total, during military operations in the direction of Kursk, the enemy lost up to 49,830 soldiers, 293 tanks, 217 infantry fighting vehicles, 159 armored personnel carriers, 1,511 armored combat vehicles, 1,426 vehicles, 344 artillery, 44 multiple launch rocket systems launchers, including 13 HIMARS and 6 MLRS, 16 anti-aircraft missile system launchers, 8 carriers and loaders, 89 electronic warfare stations, 13 antibaterai radars, and 4 air defense radars," the ministry said. , quoted from TASS January 8.

Ukraine launched a mass attack on Kursk's territory in August and has seized parts of the territory, although the Russian military says it has reclaimed much of the territory.

On Monday, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky claimed around 15,000 Russian troops were killed, out of about 38,000 losses, since the attack on Kursk.

The Russian Ministry of Defense said it managed to beat the Ukrainian formation near its Kazachya Lokk, Kubatkin, Lebedevka, Nikolskoye, Sudzha, and Cherkasskoye Porechnoye, the ministry reported.

In addition, operational-tactic, flight, and artillery attacks hit enemy personnel and equipment in the areas of Zazulevka, Zamostye, Kamyshovka, Mirny, Russkoye Porechnoye, Sverdlikovo and Basovka in the Sumy region.

Russian President Vladimir Putin sent one of his trusted generals to regulate the defense and counterattack against Ukraine in Kursk, General Yunus-bek Yevkurov, as quoted by The Telegraph.

General Yunus-Bek Yevkurov, who was promoted in December 2024 by President Putin and trusted to run Russia's border defense and an African mercenaries project, arrived in Kursk less than hours after Ukrainian tanks began thundering towards Russia's position.
