Tourists From China Become Rape Victims In Bali, Perpetrators Are Still Being Hunted

The Jatanras Team of the Bali Regional Police's General Criminal Investigation Directorate is currently hunting for an online motorcycle taxi driver (ojol) who is suspected of assaulting a foreign national (WNA) from China.

"The Jatanras unit is still pursuing the perpetrator who is suspected of being an ojol driver," said the Head of Public Relations of the Bali Police, Kombes Pol. Jansen Avitus Panjaitan, as quoted by ANTARA, Tuesday, January 7.

The incident happened to the victim with the initials YA (33), a woman from China who was on vacation in Bali. The victim is known to have stayed at Villa Casa de Kayla, Tumbak Bayuh, Mengwi, Badung. The incident occurred in the early hours of the morning, January 1, 2025.

Initially, the victim and six of his colleagues celebrated a New Year's Eve's RICH Magic event at Utilis Warung, Nyangnyang Beach, Uluwatu, Bali. At around 01.20 WITA, the victim and his friends left the location. Four of them returned to another villa in Salt Villa Ungasan, while the victim and two friends waited for the vehicle.

The victim then walked ahead to seek transportation to his place of stay. On the way, the victim saw a motorcycle driver with a green jacket and helmet, who had just dropped two foreign passengers. The driver then offered the victim a ride.

The victim felt confident because he saw the driver friendly to the previous passenger, got on the motorbike and gave the address of the intended villa. However, the victim did not open the map application due to signal problems, so he did not realize the path taken by the driver.

Not long after, the victim felt that the direction of the trip was not going to the destination. Feeling suspicious, the victim tried to contact his friend. Before the call was connected, the perpetrator took the victim's cellphone, then committed acts of violence and raped the victim.

As a result of the incident, the victim suffered abrasions on several parts of his body. After the incident, the victim reported to the Integrated Police Service Center (SPKT) of the Bali Police.

"The Jatanras Unit team will immediately conduct an investigation and pursue the perpetrators based on the victim's statement," said Kombes Pol. Jansen.

Currently, the police team is trying to identify the perpetrators suspected of being online motorcycle taxi drivers. Kombes Pol. Jansen also appealed to the public to remain vigilant and careful in using online transportation services, especially when traveling alone.

The investigation into this case continues, and the police will provide updates regarding the progress of the arrest of the perpetrators.
