Profile Of Ronny Sompie, Examined By KPK Regarding The Fugitive Case Of Harun Masiku

YOGYAKARTA - Former Director General of Immigration, Inspector General of Police (Ret.) Ronny Sompie was questioned by the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) regarding data on the crossing of fugitives in the Harun Masiku corruption case in Jakarta on Friday, January 3.

When the Harun Masiku case occurred, Ronny was serving as Director General (Dirjen) of Immigration. This examination is based on an investigation warrant on behalf of the suspects Harun Masiku, Hasto Kristiyanto, and Donny Tri Istiqomah. In this article we will discuss Ronny Sompie's profile, as reported by Antara.

KPK spokesman Tessa Mahardhika Sugiarto explained that currently investigators will continue to summon all parties suspected of having information related to the case.

Ronny, who was just questioned, explained that 22 questions were asked by KPK investigators regarding the Harun Masiku case. However, he did not reveal in more detail what investigators asked him.

Inspector General of Police (Ret.) Dr. Ronny Franky Sompie SH MH is a retired two-star police general born in Manado, North Sulawesi on September 17, 1961.

He started his career at the National Police after graduating from the Police Academy in 1984 and has experience in the field of Detective. Since then he started his career as a staff officer at PTIK Jakarta for four years. During his early career in 2003, Ronny served as Sidoarjo Police Chief. In 2005, he was transferred to fill the position of Direskrimum Polda North Sumatra. Furthermore, in 2009, Ronny was again transferred to East Java to become Kapoldiltabes Surabaya. He also had a career in the jurisdiction of Polda Metro Jaya in 2009, as Karo Ops. A year later, he was transferred to become Karo Ortala Sderenbang Polri.

Still in 2010, Ronny had received the trust to become Karowassidik Bareskrim Polri. Furthermore, in 2013, he was appointed Head of the Public Relations Division of the Police.

Two years later, Ronny got a big mandate to lead the Bali Police. In the same year, he officially changed his status from a member of the National Police to a Civil Servant (PNS).

His move as a civil servant was based on the appointment of the Minister of Law and Human Rights Yasonna Laoly as Director General of Immigration at the Ministry of Law and Human Rights.

For his services as Director General of Immigration, he was awarded the Main Service Star on August 13, 2019 by President Joko Widodo.

Apart from Bintang Jasa Utama, Ronny has also received a number of other star awards, such as Bintang Bhayangkara Pratama and Bintang Bhayangkara Nararya when they were still active in the National Police.

In 2020, Ronny was removed from the position of Director General of Immigration by Yasonna Laoly. At that time, he was also busy providing explanations to the public about Harun Masiku's crossing.

Civil society groups considered Ronny's removal at that time to have something to do with Harun's escape to Lion Country. Moreover, Yasonna is also a PDI-P (PDIP) cadre. Yasonna previously said Harun was still abroad and had not returned. However, Ronny said that Harun had returned to the country since January 7, 2020 or the day before the KPK OTT against the former KPU commissioner, Wahyu Setiawan.

Shortly after that, Ronny was removed from the position of Director General of Immigration. When confirmed to Ronny, the reason for his removal from the position of Director General of Immigration in 2020 was because he was considered to have leaked Harun's movement. He also asked the media to ask Yasonna directly.

"That asked the Minister at that time yes. The Minister understood better if he answered that," he said on January 3, 2024.
