Wanting To Keep Indonesia's Tourism Image, Menpar Rejects All Negative Actions

JAKARTA - The Minister of Tourism (Medpar), Widiyanti Putri Wardhana, regrets and expresses deep concern over a number of negative incidents, even actions that lead to criminal acts, involving a number of community elements against tourists during the 2024 Christmas and 2025 New Year holidays.

Menpar Widiyanti in her statement, Monday (6/1/2025), said this was contrary to the great spirit being echoed by the government and all Indonesian tourism stakeholders in supporting the creation of quality and sustainable tourism. Including the Nataru holiday which is one of the important moments in tourism in the country.

"We regret and are concerned about negative actions that will give a bad image to Indonesian tourism," said Menpar Widiyanti.

These incidents include allegations of harassment against foreign tourists in Bandung, West Java, and allegations of forced assault in Bali.

Menpar emphasized that there is no room whatsoever for criminal acts in the tourism and Indonesia space in general, and fully supports the police to resolve cases that occur.

These events do not reflect the values of politeness and hospitality that have been the identity of the Indonesian nation and culture.

"We are very concerned about this and encourage the authorities to take firm investigations and settlements," he said.

The Ministry of Tourism, explained Menpar Widiyanti, is committed to continuing to strengthen the role of all parties, especially community involvement in supporting the creation of a safe and comfortable tourism space for tourists.

"The Ministry of Tourism certainly cannot work alone, but we believe that with the same spirit we can realize the ideals of national tourism which has a broad impact on society," said Menpar Widiyanti.
