Billy Sheehan Reveals The Learning He Gets As David Lee Roth's Driver

JAKARTA - Before initiating the formation of Mr. Big in 1988, Billy Sheehan (bass) had already received his big stage when he was an accompaniment for David Lee Roth.

Bagi Sheehan, mendapat pengalaman menjadi angkatan touring Roth sangat berharga. Bassis 71 tahun itu merasakan banyak pelajaran yang belum pernah diperoleh sebelumnya.

"I feel like I have a doctorate in Show Biz 101 thanks to Dave," said Billy Sheehan in a recent interview with Marty5150.

Long before, Sheehan also felt lucky when appearing with his band, Talas, as the opening act for Van Halen's 1980 tour, where David Lee Roth was still the main vocalist.

And that's where we first saw this machine in action. And it's like a military operation. It's amazing. So I learned a lot about how to present myself and perform songs and how you perform shows on tours," said the bassist.

Sheehan did not even hesitate to mention that his success in music came from his introduction to Roth.

"It's hard for me to mention all the positive things I learned from that experience, because there are a lot of them," said Sheehan.

"My success is after the 'Eat 'Em And Smile' situation, many of which are because of what I know, I have to watch out for in the music business because I know Dave. So that's a very helpful thing," he added.

For information, Billy Sheehan and Steve Vai (guitar) were an accompaniment on the two initial albums released by David Lee Roth as a soloist, namely Eat Em and Smile (1986) and Skystraper (1988).
