The DPR Emphasizes The Importance Of Strengthening MSMEs And Creative Economy After The Constitutional Court's Decision

Chairman of Commission VII DPR RI, Saleh Partaonan Daulay, asked President Prabowo Subianto to increase the competitiveness of MSME products amid the challenges of organizing and building a just economic system that empowers all Indonesian people.

Saleh's statement was delivered following the decision of the Constitutional Court (MK) regarding the presidential threshold. Saleh believes that the political system in Indonesia will be organized and adjusted to the needs and current dynamics.

However, he stressed that Indonesia should not only focus on improving the political system, but also on building an economic system that is fair to society.

President Prabowo is expected to encourage the development of MSMEs and the creative economy as part of this equitable economic development. Special attention in this field is very important, especially since competition in the economic sector is getting tighter, both at the regional, national, regional, to global levels," Saleh said in a statement to reporters on Friday, January 3.

Saleh explained that the development of digital technology and e-commerce makes competition even tighter. Now, goods no longer need to be brought to the market; it is sufficient to arrange in warehouses and marketed online, then sent directly to buyers.

However, according to Saleh, if observed, many goods circulating in Indonesia actually come from abroad. The price of these imported goods is very cheap, often even lower than domestic products.

If this condition continues, Indonesia will become a market for other countries. The development of the people's economy will be hampered, and the money that should be circulating in the community will actually be collected and controlled by foreign traders," said Saleh.

For this reason, Saleh appealed to President Prabowo to increase the competitiveness of MSME products and the creative economy in Indonesia. According to him, there is a lot of potential that is owned by young Indonesians, but unfortunately this potential has not been explored and directed properly.

"Many of them are talented in working and being used by other parties. In fact, they can be the driving force of our economy," added Saleh.

Saleh emphasized that MSMEs and the creative economy are very important for the Indonesian economy. Even though the two intersect each other, both of them still have different characteristics. MSMEs are expected to develop small and medium enterprises that exist, while the creative economy needs to find creativity and new innovations that have high value.

The creative economy must not always be in the form of small businesses. There are many cases where creative economy businesses are growing rapidly into large business units that exceed expectations, said Saleh, who is also a legislator from the North Sumatra electoral district.

In addition, Saleh also assessed that the development of the creative economy could not only be carried out domestically, but would develop faster if there was cooperation with other countries. In this case, the government is expected to provide the right guidance so that this sector can develop more rapidly.

"The development and touch of the government is needed to support the development of this sector," he concluded.
