The Impact Of Cigarettes On The Body, Each Batang Reduces 20 Minutes Of Your Age

JAKARTA - A recent study warns that every cigarette smoked can reduce a person's life expectancy by up to 20 minutes.

Thus, a pack containing 20 cigarettes can reduce almost seven hours from a person's longevity.

According to research conducted by University College London (UCL), men lost about 17 minutes of their lives for each cigarette they smoked, while women lost about 22 minutes, as quoted by The Hindustan Times, Thursday.

The study also explained, in 1996, the average woman smoked 13.6 cigarettes per day. Taking into account other factors, this causes the estimated life expectancy per cigarette to increase to 20 minutes as a whole, with 17 minutes for men and 22 minutes for women.

For illustration, researchers say someone who smokes 10 cigarettes a day and quit smoking on January 1, 2025 could prevent a full day of loss from their life on January 8, one week on February 20, and one month on August 5. At the end of the year, they can avoid losing up to 50 days of their lives.

This study emphasizes that the sooner someone stops smoking, the longer and healthier their lives.

If a smoker stops on January 1, they can get an additional one week of life in February, one month in August, and avoid losing 50 days by the end of the year.

In addition, this study reveals that smoking not only shortens the life period, but also affects the quality of years of healthy life, not only accelerating old age which is usually colored by chronic illness.

The researchers also emphasized that quitting smoking at any age would provide significant health benefits, both in the short and long term.
