On Sunday 29 December, the Israeli military claimed in the attack its military had killed about 20 Palestinian militants and arrested 240 terrorists.
The Israeli military called it their move to automatically lay off the only hospital in northern Gaza to become one of the largest operations in the region.
Safiyeh, who is the Director of Kamal Adwan Hospital, was detained in the raid under the pretext of the Israeli military that he was a Hamas militant.
When asked by AFP whether Safiyeh had been transferred to Israeli territory for further investigation, the Israeli military did not immediately comment.
